The Retention System exists to notice when people disengage and to respond with care and relational awareness. Its goal is not to retain everyone at all costs, but to reduce silent drift and ensure people are seen, valued, and responded to appropriately. When re‑engagement is not possible or appropriate, this system also helps ensure individuals are released well and, when desired, supported in connecting to another church community.
Purpose: Notice when people disengage—and respond with care and wisdom.
This system answers:
Failure mode if missing:
People disappear silently, and patterns go unnoticed.
Key movement:
Engaged → Disengaging → Re-engaged or Released well
Primary Question:
Have we noticed this person’s disengagement, and are we responding with care and wisdom?
Why It Matters
Noticing and responding to disengagement with care prevents people from disappearing silently and helps the church learn, reconnect, or release people well.
